The town of Springfield, Ohio has been under the spotlight over whether or not Haitian migrants are eating domestic pets and other local wildlife.
What is not getting attention is the magnitude of immigration into this small town.
Springfield has been inundated with 20,000 Haitian migrants during the ongoing surge at the US southern border.
Springfield was a town of 58,000 before this migration. 20,000 new migrants represents nearly a 35% increase in population over a very short period of time.
City and County Services includimg Police, Fire, Health Care, and nearly all other public services need to grow by 35% in order to provide the same level of service as they did before.
Currently, most municipalities are simply accepting migrants and accomodating them. This creates many issues for these municipalities including the cost of providing for so many new residents and increased public safety concerns.
Should local municipalities be able to create and enforce limits on the number of new illegal immigrant residents they accept?
